| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE July 8, 2016 Impairment Suspected in Crash that Killed Unrestrained Gonzales Woman in Ascension Parish Prairieville, LA – Shortly after 3:00 am on July 8, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 621 east of LA 73 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 37 year old Christine Reaux of Gonzales, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Reaux was traveling eastbound on LA 621 in a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. Reaux failed to negotiate a right hand curve and lost control of her vehicle. Reaux’s vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Reaux was ejected from her vehicle as it overturned multiple times. Reaux was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from Reaux for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
