| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release July 01, 2008 Troopers Arrest Brooks for Forgery In May 2007, Troopers discovered a counterfeit Louisiana temporary 60-day license plate displayed on a stolen Chevrolet Impala. With the discovery of the counterfeit plate, the LSP Insurance Fraud Unit initiated an investigation to determine the document's origin. During the investigation it was determined Shreveport resident Melvin Brooks was largely responsible for the distribution of not only counterfeit temporary license plates and corresponding registration markers, but also counterfeit auto insurance identification cards. Brooks sold these counterfeit documents for $40 to $50 each. On June 10, 2008, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Brooks through the 1st JDC in Caddo Parish on 5 counts of forgery. On the evening of July 1, 2008, Shreveport Police stopped Brooks for a traffic violation. Upon checking for warrants, Shreveport Police learned of the outstanding LSP warrants filed on June 10, 2008. Officers arrested Brooks and booked him in the Caddo Correctional Center without incident. | |||
