News Release June 23, 2008 Train Derailment in Bienville Parish
On June 23, 2008 at about 1:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop G Troopers were called to the scene of a train derailment along US 80 at Black Lake Road in the community of Ada Taylor. A Kansas City Southern train carrying non hazardous materials was travelling eastbound when it impacted the trailer portion of a loaded log truck crossing the tracks at Black Lake Road. The impact caused the train to derail leaving several cars and one locomotive on fire for several hours until the scene was made safe for clean up at approximately 4:00 pm. The clean-up by a collection of private contractors extended throughout the night so that regular travel was possible on both US 80 and the railway through Ada Taylor by 10:00 am Tuesday morning. There were no injuries to the operators of the locomotive nor to the driver of the tractor trailer, the driver of the tractor trailer was cited for failure to yield.
