Driver Ejected and Critically Injured in Collision with Minden Police Officer

Minden - On April 22, 2011, at 7:24 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two vehicle crash involving a Minden police officer on Germantown Road at Country Club Circle in Minden. The crash, which occurred in Webster Parish, sent a Minden police officer along with a father and son from Sarepta to the hospital with injures.

According to investigating troopers, an on-duty Minden police officer was traveling south on Germantown Road in his assigned 2009 Ford Crown Victoria when he entered the intersection of Country Club Circle. At that time, 30-year-old Anthony Couch and his 5-year-old son were traveling west on Country Club Circle in a 1989 Chevrolet truck, when for unknown reasons, Couch failed to stop at the stop sign. As a result, both vehicles collided within the intersection and came to rest off the roadway.

The police officer, whose name is being withheld at this time, received serious injuries that were not life threatening and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. The officer was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Couch, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life threatening injuries. The 5-year-old child, who received serious injuries from the crash, was restrained but not in the proper child restraint system. Couch and his son were both airlifted to LSU Medical Center.

Although Couch has not been cited with any violations, routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
