Early Morning Crash Injures Two Men from Sarepta

Cullen – On April 15, 2011, at 2:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on US 371 at South Arkansas Street in Cullen. The crash, which occurred in Webster Parish, critically injured two men from Sarepta.

According to investigating troopers, 29-year-old Alan J. Fish and passenger, 24-year-old Clinton S. Branton, were traveling south on US 371 in a 1988 Dodge pickup during an active thunderstorm. During that commute, the front roof portion of the vehicle collided with a power line that was draped across the roadway. The impact separated the roof from the truck as the vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder. Fish attempted to avoid the collision by applying his brake but was unable to do so.

Fish was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport with life threatening injuries. Branton was transported to Springhill Hospital with serious Injuries.

Both Fish and Branton were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Prior to the crash, several utility poles along US 371 that were supporting the power lines had been damaged due to a recent storm. As a result, several power lines were down on the roadway.

Although impairment is not suspected to be a factor, routine toxicology tests are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
