Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – March 2, 2011 Late Night Crash Claims Life of Athens Man Claiborne Parish – On March 1, 2011, at 11:44 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 518 just east of LA 9 in Claiborne Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 33-year-old man from Athens. According to investigating troopers, David R. Sanders of Athens was traveling east on LA 518 in a 2004 GMC truck when for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Sanders was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Claiborne Parish Coroner. Routine toxicology tests results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop G troopers have investigated 5 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, which resulted in 5 fatalities. | |||
