According to investigating troopers, 54-year-old Frank L. Stoddart was driving south on LA 9 just south US 80 in a 2007 Peterbilt tractor trailer loaded with an oil field compressor unit. The 2007 Peterbilt attempted to cross at a railroad crossing when its loaded lowboy trailer became lodged on top of the rails of the train tracks. Efforts to free the tractor trailer from the tracks were unsuccessful. Moments later, Stoddart exited the truck and vacated the area after noticing a train approaching. Shortly thereafter, the lowboy trailer was impacted by the train. After impact, the tractor trailer and its load overturned and the engine of the train partially derailed off the right side of the tracks. There were no injuries as a result of this crash and Stoddart was not inside the truck at the time of the crash. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
