TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Prairieville Teenager Arrested in Fatal East Baton Rouge Parish Crash Baton Rouge – Shortly before 12:00 pm on April 26, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 73 (Jefferson Hwy) at Antioch Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 40-year-old Vikram Katoch of Baton Rouge and resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Dustin Philippe of Prairieville. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Philippe was traveling westbound on Antioch Road in a 2015 Ford F150 pick-up. At the same time, Katoch was traveling eastbound on Antioch Road in a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette. For reasons still under investigation, Philippe failed to yield and made a left turn into the path of the Corvette. This resulted in the Ford striking the Corvette on its driver side door. Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Katoch sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Although impairment is not suspected by Katoch, an autopsy and toxicology report will be completed by the coroner’s office. Philippe was properly restrained and was not injured. He was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. After the chemical breath test, Troopers arrested and booked Philippe into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for violating LRS 14:32 Negligent Homicide and LRS 32:122 Vehicle Turning Left at Intersection . This crash remains under investigation. Motorists should always be cognizant of their surroundings and obey posted traffic control signs. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
