Deadly Crash in Bossier Parish Claims Life of Benton Man

Bossier Parish – On July 24, 2011, at 6:29 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on Bellevue Road, 4 miles north of US 80, in Bossier Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 33-year-old man from Benton, LA.

According to investigating troopers, Elliot M. Schimpf was traveling north on Bellevue Road in a 2000 Ford F-250 truck when the vehicle entered a curve to the left. Upon exiting the curve, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered right and traveled off the right side of the roadway. Schimpf attempted to steer the vehicle back into the northbound lane of travel but overcorrected to the left. The vehicle re-entered the roadway as it rotated sideways and crossed both lanes of travel. Thereafter, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned onto its left side. The overturned vehicle came to rest after its top cab portion collided with a second tree.

Schimpf, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner.

Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

The crash is believed to have occurred on late Saturday evening (July 23, 2011) at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Schimpf had been reported missing to local law enforcement on July 23, 2011, at 11:43 p.m. by a family member. As a result, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputies, who were actively searching for Schimpf, located the crash on Bellevue Road on the following morning at 6:29 a.m.

Troop G Troopers have investigated 16 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, which resulted in 19 fatalities.
