Passenger Killed After Slip and Fall from Moving Vehicle

DeSoto Parish – On June 14, 2011, at 10:05 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 481, four miles south of US 84, in DeSoto Parish that involved a passenger falling from a moving vehicle. The crash claimed the life of a 36-year-old man from Converse, LA.

According to investigating troopers, the driver, 37-year-old Joshua W. Fisher and 36-year-old William Baldree, each with their sons (ages 10 and 13), were all traveling north on LA 481 in a 2000 Toyota truck. While the vehicle was in motion, for unknown reasons, William Baldree climbed out of the passenger side window and onto the top cab portion of the truck. During his attempt to re-enter the moving vehicle, he slipped and fell off the truck and onto the roadway.

William Baldree was airlifted to Louisiana State University Health Science Center (LSUHSC) in Shreveport where he died. Joshua Fisher and both sons were wearing their seat belts and were not injured.

Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

Troop G Troopers have investigated 15 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, which resulted in 18 fatalities.

While traveling on Louisiana’s roadways it is extremely important that all occupants remain properly buckled at all times inside the vehicle. It is also of great importance that passengers conduct themselves in such manner as to not distract the driver. Remember, Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
