TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Livingston Parish Crash Holden – Shortly before 10:30 pm on April 30, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 442 east of LA Hwy 1036 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 50-year-old David Contreras-Nieves, who was residing in Holden. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Contreras-Nieves was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra westbound on LA Hwy 442. As Contreras-Nieves was driving westbound his vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. The Nissan then reentered the lane of travel before leaving the roadway to the right again. Upon doing so, the Nissan entered a ditch and overturned. Contreras-Nieves was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is a suspected factor, and a toxicology sample was taken from Contreras-Nieves to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Time and time again, Troopers witness preventable motor vehicle crashes. Troopers urge motorists to have a plan in place before consuming alcohol as it can impair visual ability, diminish fine motor skills, and decrease reaction times. Please choose never to drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver, and always buckle up. Simply making safe decisions while in motor vehicles can often prevent serious injury crashes such as this one. Contact Information: | |||
