Deadly Crash in Webster Parish Claims the Life of a Pedestrian

Webster Parish – On January 1, 2011, at 5:47 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 20 at milepost 42, east of Goodwill Road, in Webster Parish. The crash claimed the life of a woman from Shreveport, LA.

According to investigating troopers, 34-year-old Shannon L. Parker and passenger, 26-year-old David Stepp, both of Shreveport, LA, were traveling west on Interstate 20 in a 1996 Ford Escort when the vehicle had a mechanical failure. As a result, the vehicle stopped in the right lane at milepost 42, blocking that lane of travel. Subsequently, both occupants exited the vehicle.

Thereafter, Stepp pushed the disabled vehicle out of the roadway while, for unknown reasons, Parker walked into the west bound lanes of Interstate 20. Consequently, Parker was struck by a 2010 Dodge Ram pickup, operated by 25-year-old Jimmy B. Anders of Minden, LA.

Parker’s injuries were fatal and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner.

Stepp was standing on the shoulder at the time of the crash and was not injured.

Anders was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

Although Anders has not been cited with any violations, routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
