Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – December 31, 2010 Deadly Crash in Claiborne Parish Claims the Life of a Homer Man Claiborne Parish – On December 31, 2010, at 12:10 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on US 79, just south of Homer, in Claiborne Parish. A 34-year-old man from Homer was killed in the crash. According to investigating troopers, 34-year-old Alton R. Jones was traveling south on US 79 in a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and collided with a tree. Jones was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Claiborne Parish Coroner. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop G Troopers have investigated 45 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, which resulted in 51 fatalities. | |||
