Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – October 3, 2010 Coushatta Teenager Critically Injured in Crash Coushatta – On October 2, 2010, at 9:59 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two vehicle crash on US 71, 2 miles north of LA 514, in Red River Parish. The crash critically injured an 18-year-old teenager from Coushatta. According to investigating troopers, 18-year-old Travis Levi of Coushatta was traveling south on US 71 in a 1987 Ford F-150 truck when his vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline into the path of a 2008 Mack truck traveling north. The driver of the Mack truck, 40-year-old Turner Jones of Coushatta, attempted to avoid the collision by steering to the right but was unable to. The front left portions of both vehicles collided within the northbound lane of travel. The Mack truck, which belongs to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, was carrying a bulldozer and responding to a fire within a wooded area of Red River Parish. Levi, who was restrained at the time of the crash, was air lifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport with life threatening injuries. Jones was restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured. The bulldozer was loaded onto another Forestry truck and taken to its previously dispatched location to assist with containing a fire. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Contact Information: Tpr. Cordell Williams | |||
