Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – September 11, 2010 Collision with Train Claims Two Lives in Bienville Parish Ada – This afternoon, at 2:20 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a vehicle crash with a locomotive train on Oscar Kilpatrick Road, just north of US 80. The crash claimed the lives of two people from Morehouse Parish. According to investigating troopers, the driver, 63-year-old Tommy Jones Jr., and his occupant, 62-year-old Martha L. Hubbarh, were traveling south on Oscar Kilpatrick Road just north of US 80 in a 2004 Chevrolet Caviler when Jones traveled into the path of a train traveling east. The vehicle, which was impacted on its passenger side, became partially wedged with the front of the train, and was pushed approximately 500 feet east of Oscar Kilpatrick Road. Jones and Hubbard, who were both properly restrained at the time of the crash, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner. This crash was caused when Jones failed to yield to the train. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop G troopers have investigated 28 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 32 fatalities. This is the first fatal crash investigated by Troop G this year involving a train.
