Unrestrained Driver Killed in Rollover Crash Riverdale- On the evening of December 11, 2010, at 8::20 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 515, approximately 4.7 miles north of US 71 in Red River Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 43-year-old man from Rockdale, Texas. According to investigating troopers, 43-year-old Cary G. Phillips was traveling north on LA 515 in a 2006 Ford truck when he approached a left hand curve. For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway where Phillips overcorrected to the left and loss control of the vehicle. Consequently, the vehicle entered a ditch area where it overturned and ejected Phillips. Phillips, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner. Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop G troopers have investigated 38 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 43 fatalities. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Buckle UP!! Seatbelts Save Lives.
