11-Year-Old Child Killed in Bienville Parish
Mount Olive – On October 29, 2010, at 12:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one vehicle pedestrian crash involving a child on LA 147, 1.4 miles north of LA 155 in Bienville Parish. The crash claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl from Jonesboro, LA. According to investigating troopers, 11-year-old Caroline Menzina of Jonesboro attempted to cross LA 147, when she was struck in the south bound lane by a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 65-year-old Sammy K. Gunn and occupied by 82-year-old Livingston Gaines, both of Quitman, LA. After the collision, Gunn slowed his vehicle to a stop. Menzina, whose injuries were fatal, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner. Gunn and his passenger were both wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and were not injured. Although Gunn has not been cited with any violations, routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation. Troop G troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 38 fatalities. Contact Information: | |||
