Five Injured in Three Vehicle Crash in Bossier Parish

Haughton - On the evening of November 23, 2010, at 6:50 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a three vehicle crash on Interstate 20 eastbound at milepost 34 in Bossier Parish. The crash sent five people to local hospitals with minor to serious injuries.

According to investigating troopers, 55-year-old Willie H. Gammage of Atlanta, GA attempted to merge onto Interstate 20 eastbound from the shoulder while operating a 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer. During that merge, the Freight Liner struck the passenger side of a 2003 GMC Envoy operated by 61-year-old Stella Godly and occupied by 43-year-old Claude Newsom, 47-year-old Betty Mason and 63-year-old Gloria Craig, all of Sarepta, LA.

The impact caused the GMC Envoy to spin out of control and collide with a 2007 Honda Accord that was traveling east, operated by 30-year-old Rebecca Greene of Minden, LA.

Gammage, the driver of the Freightliner, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

Godly, the driver of the GMC Envoy and Mason, a passenger with Godly were both restrained at the time of the crash and were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. Newsom and Craig, who were also passengers with Godly were both unrestrained at the time of the crash and were transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA by Life Air Rescue with serious injuries.

Greene, the driver and sole occupant of the Honda Accord, was restrained at the time of the crash and transported to LSUMC with minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash.

Gammage was ticketed for failure to yield and stopping on the shoulder of the road in a non-emergency capacity.

The crash remains under investigation.
