| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 7, 2019 Baton Rouge Man Killed in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash Baton Rouge – Shortly after 3:00 pm on December 7, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on US Hwy 61 (Airline Hwy.) at LA Hwy 3246 (Siegen Ln.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 61-year-old Kendal Robbins of Baton Rouge. The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Robbins was riding his bicycle in the westbound lane of LA Hwy 3246. At the same time, a 2020 Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling northbound on US Hwy 61. For unknown reasons, Robbins attempted to cross the northbound lanes of travel on US Hwy 61 and struck the rear of the Peterbilt. Robbins suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is suspected on the part of Robbins. A toxicology sample was obtained from him and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Peterbilt was properly restrained and was not injured. He was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you. Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries.
