TROOP G NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Bienville Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Bienville Parish – Just after 9:00 a.m. yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 9 at LA 517 that claimed the life of a Bienville man. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Ford pick-up truck driven by 81-year-old Percy Melton of Bienville was traveling north on LA 9. The vehicle failed to stop at the intersection of LA 9 and LA 517 and traveled across LA 517 striking a sign and a tree. Melton was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported to University Health in Shreveport where he later died due to the severity of his injuries. Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash though toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that always wearing a seat belt, avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and not driving while impaired can often mean the difference between life and death.
