TROOP G NEWS RELEASE April 5, 2018 Unrestrained Ruston Man Killed in I-20 Rollover Bienville Parish – Around 7:30 p.m. this evening, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on I-20, about 1.6 miles east of LA 151, near Arcadia, Louisiana, that claimed the life of a Ruston, Louisiana man. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by 23-year-old Mejia Perez Genaro was traveling eastbound on I-20 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the road and overturned. Genaro was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner’s Office. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, following posted speed limits and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. In 2018, Troop G has investigated 5 fatal crashes resulting in 5 deaths. Contact information: | |||
