TROOP G NEWS RELEASE December 28, 2017 Head-On Crash Kills One and Critically Injures Another in DeSoto Parish DeSoto Parish — A head-on crash involving two passenger cars killed one person and critically injured another on LA 174 in DeSoto Parish last night. On December 27, 2017, just after 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on LA 174, about 4 miles west of LA 487 in DeSoto Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling west on LA 174 when, for reasons still under investigation, the Mercury crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2008 Honda Accord. Both vehicles left the roadway after impact and the 2005 Mercury became fully engulfed in flames. The driver of the Mercury died from injuries sustained in the crash and fire. The name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The driver of the Honda Accord, 58-year-old Alice P. Thomas of Pelican, LA was properly restrained but sustained critical injuries. A properly restrained juvenile passenger in the Honda sustained minor injuries. Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In 2017, Troop G has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths.
