TROOP G NEWS RELEASE Mansfield Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle DeSoto Parish Crash DeSoto Parish – Shortly before 11:00 a.m. this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 175 just south of LA 3015 in DeSoto Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Lincoln LS sedan driven by 19-year-old Kayla Allen of Mansfield was traveling south on LA 175. A 2015 Smart car driven by 18-year-old Kayla Ford of Mansfield was traveling north on LA 175. Ford’s mother, 47-year-old Shermise Ford-Samuels also of Mansfield was a front seat passenger. For reasons still under investigation, the Lincoln sedan began a circular rotation and crossed the center line into the path of the Smart car. The Smart car struck the Lincoln on the left side. Shermise Ford-Samuels was wearing a seat belt but due to the severity of her injuries was transported to DeSoto Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Both Allen and Ford were wearing seat belts and were transported to University Health with moderate injuries. Though impairment is not suspected, a routine toxicology sample was taken from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to slow down during inclement weather and make sure your vehicle and tires are in proper working condition.
