TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Fatal EBR Parish Crash Baton Rouge – Shortly before 3:30 pm on January 10, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on the US Hwy 190 Bridge east of LA Hwy 1in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 50-year-old Michael Thompson of Baton Rouge.
Thompson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from Thompson for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
