Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Livingston Parish Hit & Run

Denham Springs, LA Shortly before 9:00 pm on September 12, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian on LA 16 (Pete’s Hwy) north of LA 1034 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 26 year old Donald Arnett of Slaughter, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Arnett and another pedestrian were walking northbound on the northbound side of LA 16. Arnett was walking near the fog line when he was struck by a passing vehicle. That vehicle was described as a full sized, white utility truck.

Arnett sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Arnett later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Arnett for analysis.

Troopers are asking that anyone with information regarding this crash to please contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at (225)754-8500.

Troopers also urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the roadway. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes.

Both motorists and pedestrians are urged to call *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest LSP Troop location to report hazardous roadway conditions or request assistance if needed.
