TROOP G NEWS RELEASE May 29, 2021 Unrestrained Woman Dies in DeSoto Parish Crash DeSoto Parish- On Friday, May 28, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 175 at I-49. This crash claimed the life of 72-year-old Willie Harper of Frierson. The initial investigation revealed that a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 77-year-old Tracy McGee of Grand Cane, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 175. At the same time, a 1998 Honda Accord, driven by Harper, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 175. While attempting to make a left turn, McGee failed to yield at the intersection and struck the Accord. McGee, who was properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Harper, who was not restrained, was taken to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Although impairment is not a suspected factor, toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers would like to remind all motorists that buckling your seatbelt makes your chance of survival far greater should you be involved in a crash. Also, motorists should always yield the right of way to other vehicles before making any turn or merging into another lane.
