REGION 3 NEWS RELEASE February 26, 2021 Haynesville Police Chief Arrested on Multiple Warrants Claiborne Parish – Earlier this afternoon, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation (LSP BOI) took 56-year-old Anthony Smith, Haynesville Police Chief, into custody on multiple warrants issued by the Claiborne Parish Grand Jury. Last year, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) concluded an investigation that alleged Smith committed malfeasance in office and was in possession of stolen firearms. The FBI referred the case to the Claiborne Parish District Attorney’s office. Early this morning, the Claiborne Parish District Attorney requested LSP BOI to execute an arrest warrant for Smith. LSP BOI was also requested to execute two search warrants issued by the Claiborne Parish Grand Jury. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., Smith was booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center and charged with theft of firearms (five counts) and malfeasance in office. This is a joint investigation between the FBI and LSP BOI. It remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
