TROOP G NEWS RELEASE December 27 2017 Pedestrian Struck and Killed in DeSoto Parish Last Night Kickapoo – A DeSoto Parish man is dead after being struck by a vehicle overnight while walking on US 171 in the community of Kickapoo. On December 26, 2017, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on US 171 about ½ mile south of LA 5. The preliminary investigation revealed a black male, identified as 55-year-old Charles R. Williams of DeSoto Parish, was struck by a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup truck as he crossed the outside lane of travel. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the pickup, Jose Antonio Llantio of Logansport, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment. A toxicology sample was obtained from Williams for analysis and the crash remains under investigation. At the time of the crash, Williams was wearing dark underwear and a dark pullover style hooded top walking in the lane of travel. The weather at the time of the crash was cold with misting rain. Pedestrians are encouraged to walk facing traffic, use a sidewalk or highway shoulder when available, wear light colored clothing with reflective materials, and to carry a flashlight at night.
