Man Arrested for the Murder of a Homer Woman

Homer, LA- On Monday, January 11, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., the Homer Police Department was dispatched to 304 Bridges St. in reference to a welfare concern. Upon arrival officers discovered that 68-year-old Sulyn Prince was not in the residence and evidence of foul play was discovered.

Once the evidence of foul play was discovered, Homer Police Chief Russell Mills contacted Louisiana State Police Detectives for assistance and set up a perimeter. Upon arrival, LSP detectives continued to find more evidence indicating foul play. Investigators then contacted Forensic Examiners from the LSP Crime lab in Baton Rouge, the Shreveport Fire Department Cadaver Search Team, and the David Wade Correctional Search Team in an effort to locate Prince.

During the investigation, evidence was discovered in a wooded area behind the home that was consistent with evidence found at the scene. Members of the Cadaver Search Team deployed their K-9s and discovered a shallow grave containing the body of Sulyn Prince. Investigators and Forensic Examiners worked through the night processing the scene and following leads that later led to the arrest of 35-year-old Jermaine Johnson of Homer for 2nd Degree Murder.

This investigation is ongoing and could lead to more charges. If convicted, Johnson could serve life in prison without benefit of parole.

“This arrest brings closure to a terrible tragedy, but it also sends a message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated and we will bring these violent criminals to justice,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson.
