Single Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of a Sarepta Man

Webster Parish-On January 9, 2016, at 8:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a one vehicle crash on Doc Steed Road, just east of US Highway 371 in Webster Parish that claimed the life of a Sarepta Man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by 45-year-old Stephen Matthews of Sarepta was traveling east on Doc Steed Road when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle exited the left side of the roadway, and struck a Church Building.

Matthews was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner. Speed and alcohol are also suspected to be factors in this crash.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Matthews and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.

Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. This crash serves as yet another tragic reminder of how important this decision can be.
