TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Pedestrian Killed in Iberville Parish Crash Plaquemine – Shortly before 9:30 pm on August 2, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on LA Hwy 1 south of LA Hwy 75 (Belleview Rd.) in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 36-year-old Dusty Rineheart of Plaquemine. The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Rineheart was walking across the southbound lanes of LA Hwy 1. At the same time, a 2000 Buick Park Regal, a 2019 Kia Optima, and a 2017 Allegro Motorhome were traveling southbound on LA Hwy 1. As Rineheart was attempting to cross the roadway, he was struck by the Buick and subsequently run over by the Kia and Allegro. Rineheart sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is suspected on the part of Rineheart, and a toxicology sample was obtained from him for further analysis. All other parties were properly restrained and not injured. They were given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. This crash remains under investigation and there is no further information at this time. Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes. Troopers would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that making good choices, such as never driving while impaired and ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, can often be key to preventing and surviving serious crashes.
