TROOP G NEWS RELEASE September 5, 2015 DeSoto Parish Crash Claims the Life of a Shreveport Man DeSoto Parish-On September 4, 2015 at 6:31 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Interstate 49, one mile north of US Highway 84 that claimed the life of a Shreveport man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Dodge Ram truck operated by 63-year-old Richard Cloud of Shreveport was traveling north on I-49, when it exited the left side of the roadway into the median and crashed. Cloud and his passenger 27-year-old Cameron Chaney of Rockwall, TX were properly restrained during the crash; however, Cloud died at the scene and Chaney received only minor injuries. Based on Chaney’s observation of Cloud as the vehicle exited the roadway, it appeared the Cloud may have suffered a medical condition. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Cloud and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers want to take this time to remind motorists that fatigued drivers and drivers experiencing unexpected medical problems are three times more likely to be involved in a crash. By taking preventative measures such as stopping for rest or seeking medical attention for an unexpected illness can drastically decrease your chances of being involved in a crash.
