Early Morning Crash Claims Life of a Mansfield Man

Red River Parish-On May 10, 2015, at 2:55 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on US Highway 84, just east of the Red River/DeSoto Parish line that claimed the life of a Mansfield man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 48-year-old Curtis Robertson of Mansfield was traveling west on US 84 when he attempted to pass a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 32-year-old Nakia Hill of Shreveport. The portion of the roadway that Robertson was trying to pass on was a no passing zone and as he was passing, he side swiped the suburban causing both vehicles to lose control and crash.

Robertson was not restrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Robertson sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner.

Impairment and speed are suspected factors in this crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Hill, as well as her passengers, were restrained at the time of the crash and were not seriously injured.

Each year, on Louisiana’s highways, numerous people are killed or seriously injured in automobile crashes that involve impaired drivers. In 2014, 47% of the fatal crashes in Troop G involved impaired drivers. Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed. Drive sober or get pulled over.

To report impaired or eratic drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
