Crash Claims the Life of a Hall Summit Man

Red River Parish-On May 1, 2015, at 4:50 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a one vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 783, just south of Louisiana Highway 514 that claimed the life of a Hall Summit man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1991 Ford Ranger driven by 68-year-old Stephen Starts of Hall Summit was traveling north on LA 783 when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a group of trees.

Starts was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and died as a result of his injuries.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Starts and will be submitted for analysis. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.

Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. This crash serves as yet another tragic reminder of how important this decision can be.
