TROOP G NEWS RELEASE November 17, 2015 Crash Claims Life of an Unrestrained Minden Man Webster Parish-On Monday, November 16, 2015, at 10:01 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 531 at the Interstate 20 overpass that claimed the life of a Minden man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1977 Chevrolet Truck driven by 44-year-old Ronald Rice of Minden was traveling north on LA 531 when it veered off the right side of the roadway in an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision with a north bound 2006 Peter Built Tractor/Trailer driven by 53-year-old Christopher Calloway of Atmore, AL. The Chevrolet Truck then collided with the guardrail and side swiped the rear of the Tractor/Trailer, causing the Tractor/Trailer to drag it along the concrete bring rail to where it came to rest on the north side of the bridge. Rice, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died as a result of his injuries. Rice was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner. Calloway was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Rice and will be submitted for analysis, but impairment is not suspected to be a factor. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.
