TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Driver Killed in Fatal Head-On EBR Parish Crash Pride – Shortly before 5:00 am on August 30, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 37 (Greenwell Springs Rd.) north of Lee Price Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 56-year-old Linda Burns of Clinton. The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as 65-year-old Ricky Guilbeau of Carencro was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 37 in a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer. At the same time, Burns was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 37 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, Guilbeau crossed the centerline into the opposing lane, which resulted in the Peterbilt striking the Chevrolet head-on. Burns was unrestrained at the time of the crash. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Guilbeau was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time. Routine toxicology samples were taken from Burns and Guilbeau, and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation and charges may be pending. There is no further information at this time. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
