Severe Weather Causes Crash
That Claimed the Life of a Mansfield Man

On Sunday, May 28, 2017, at 5:35 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one vehicle crash on Hudson Darby Road just east of US Highway 171 in DeSoto Parish that claimed the life of a Mansfield man.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Ford F-150 operated by 52-year-old Collis Boyd of Gloster was traveling west on Hudson Darby Road during a severe thunderstorm, when it was struck by a falling tree.

Boyd and his front seat passenger 59-year-old Glen Jones of Gloster sustained moderate injuries during the incident and were transported to University Health in Shreveport for treatment. The rear seat passenger 21-year-old Demontre Lewis of Mansfield sustained fatal injuries from the falling tree and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner.

This tragic weather related event is one of many that have occurred across our state this year. We would like to take this time to remind all motorists of how important it is to seek shelter in the event of severe weather. The chances of being involved in a serious injury or fatal crash significantly increase during severe weather. We also encourage motorists to monitor all weather alerts in and around your area during a severe storm; these alert systems were put in place for your protection.
