Hammond Woman Killed in EBR Parish Crash

Baton Rouge – Shortly before 12:30 pm on September 12, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 west of LA Hwy 3245 (O’Neal Lane) in E. Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 58-year-old Tommie Todd of Hammond.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Todd and her passenger were traveling westbound on I-12 in a 2016 Ford Fusion. At the same time, a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer was stopped on the right westbound shoulder of I-12. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck the rear of the Freightliner.

Todd was properly restrained; however, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger of the Ford was also properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. Impairment on the part of Todd is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample will be submitted for analysis.

The driver of the Freightliner was properly restrained and was not injured. He was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. This crash remains under investigation and there is no further information at this time.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
