The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 BMW passenger car driven by 43-year-old Stephan Lane of Haughton was traveling north on I-49 when, for reasons still under investigation, Lane struck a stationary semi-trailer that was disabled on the right shoulder of the road.

Although Lane was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner’s Office.

Though impairment is not suspected, a toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

In 2017, Troop G has investigated 22 crashes resulting in 25 deaths.
