TROOP G NEWS RELEASE September 25, 2016 Motorcycle Crash in Claiborne Parish Claimed the Life of a Shreveport Man Claiborne Parish-On September 24, 2016 at 11:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a missing motorcyclist that was possibly involved in a crash on US Highway 79 just south Homer. Troopers responded and began searching with area law enforcement and on September 25, 2016, at 2:36 a.m., Troopers located the crash and the motorcyclist. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Harley Davidson driven by 41-year-old Rufus Taylor of Shreveport was traveling south on US HWY 79, when for reasons still under investigation Taylor exited the right side of the roadway and struck a stump. Upon impact, Taylor was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. Taylor was not wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Claiborne Parish Coroner. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Each year, on Louisiana’s highways, numerous people are killed or seriously injured in automobile crashes that involve impaired drivers. In 2015, 48% of the fatal crashes in Troop G involved impaired drivers. Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed.
