TROOP G NEWS RELEASE

November 19, 2016
Impairment Suspected In
Bossier Parish Fatal Crash

Bossier Parish-On November 18, 2016 at 9:48 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Sligo Road about 4 miles east of US Highway 71 that claimed the life of a Haughton Man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Toyota Corolla driven by 30-year-old Cody Walters of Haughton was traveling west on Sligo Road when for reasons still under investigation, it crossed the center line, exited the roadway, and struck a tree.

Walters was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bossier Parish Coroner.

Alcohol is suspected in this crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Each year, on Louisiana’s highways, numerous people are killed or seriously injured in crashes that involve impaired drivers. In 2015, 48% of the fatal crashes in Troop G involved impaired drivers. This crash could have been prevented. Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before traveling to any place where alcohol will be consumed. By taking the alcohol element out of the equation, you can significantly reduce your chances of having a crash or causing one.
