TROOP G NEWS RELEASE November 11, 2016 Crash Claims Life of Unrestrained Houston Man Red River Parish-On November 10, 2016, at 4:43 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Catfish Bend Road, about two miles west of LA Highway 1 that claimed the life of a Houston man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Chevrolet Truck driven by 46-year-old Victor Thomas of Houston, TX was traveling east on Catfish Bend Road when for reasons still under investigation Thomas lost control of his vehicle, exited the roadway, stuck an embankment, and overturned. Thomas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected during the crash, and pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.
