Train Derailment and Road Closure in Lincoln Parish |
TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE
September 19, 2011
Train Derailment and Road Closure in Lincoln Parish Last night just before 7:30 pm first responders were called to the scene of a train derailment in Lincoln Parish.
A Kansas City Southern train derailed last night causing the evacuation of numerous houses and the closure of Hwy 80 in Lincoln Parish, near the Ouachita Parish line. Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat units and workers from numerous agencies have been on the scene throughout the night and today. There is a tanker car carrying a flammable liquid that was heavily damaged in the derailment. The contents of this tanker will have to be transferred into another tanker and the scene will have to be deemed safe before those people who are still displaced can return to their homes.
This morning, the evacuation area was reduced to thirteen homes within about one half mile from the scene. Hwy 80 will remain closed between Owens Rd and Crocker Rd until the scene has been cleaned up. There is no estimate on how long clean-up will take and the safety of the workers and the citizens is the number one priority.
For questions regarding the evacuation and to determine if your home is still in the evacuated area, please call the Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office at (318)251-5111.
