TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE

Ruston Woman Dies in Lincoln Parish Crash

A Ruston woman has died in a two-vehicle crash on US 80, west of Ruston, in Lincoln Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash today at about 12:38 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge Dakota was traveling west on US 80, when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center-line and struck a 2007 Chrysler van in a head-on manner. After the initial collision, the van rolled over onto its passenger side before coming to rest.

The driver of the Chrysler van, identified as 59-year-old Judy Sutton from Ruston, was transported to Lincoln General Hospital where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Sutton was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as Kim Willett from Ruston, was also transported to Lincoln General Hospital with moderate injuries. Willet was wearing her seat belt. Willet was issued a citation for driving left of center.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.

While not all crashes are survivable, the proper wearing of a seat belt and the correct use of age and size appropriate child restraints are still the best ways to reduce injuries and deaths in traffic crashes.

In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-seven (37) fatal crashes resulting in forty-two (42) deaths.
