TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE October 8, 2011 Impairment Suspected in Morehouse Parish Fatal Crash A Bastrop woman has died and a teenager was injured in a one-vehicle crash early this morning. Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash at about 4:00 am this morning on US 425, about a mile south of LA 134, in Morehouse Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2007 Nissan truck was traveling north on US 425, at an apparent high rate of speed, when the driver failed to negotiate a slight left hand curve. The driver over-corrected and ran off the roadway to the left. The truck then struck a tree and overturned. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Tabatha Kitchens from Bastrop, was ejected from the vehicle in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office. Kitchens was not wearing a seat belt and impairment is suspected in the crash. Toxicology tests are pending. A 16-year-old male passenger in the truck at the time of the crash received moderate injuries and was transported to Richardson Medical Center for treatment. The teen was wearing his seat belt. In 2010, about 81 percent of driver fatalities involved lack of seat belt use, alcohol or aggressive driving. Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to never drive impaired or ride with someone who is; always wear a seat belt and properly restrain children; and to drive responsibly with due care for others on the roadway. In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-eight (38) fatal crashes resulting in forty-three (43) deaths.
