Speed and Restraint Use Factors in Fatal Crash

An Oak Grove man has died in a one-vehicle crash early this morning in West Carroll Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash this morning at about 3:41 am. The investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet truck was traveling south on LA 589 at an apparent high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the truck and ran off the right side of the roadway. The driver then over-corrected back onto the roadway and slid off the left side of the highway. The truck then rolled over several times, ejecting the unrestrained driver.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Brandon Skipper from Oak Grove, was transported to West Carroll Memorial Hospital, but later died from injuries he sustained in the crash. Impairment is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending.

A review of the previous five fatal crashes investigated by Troop F Troopers show that each of the drivers were not wearing their seat belts when they died. While not all crashes are survivable, the proper wearing of a seat belt will greatly reduce your risk of being seriously injured or killed in most crashes. Louisiana law requires all drivers and occupants to be properly restrained in either a seat belt or age and size appropriate child restraint. Take the extra few seconds to ensure that everyone is "buckled up" before any trip.

In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated twenty-seven (27) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-two (32) deaths.
