Three Vehicle Fatal Crash in Morehouse Parish

A three-vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish has resulted in the death of a Grambling man and serious injuries to a man from Oak Grove.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash on LA 139 (milepost 17.1) last night at about 9:15 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2004 Lexus car was traveling north on LA 139 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center-line of the highway and side-swiped a 1994 Ford van. The Lexus then continued traveling north in the southbound lane until it struck a 2005 Toyota van in a head-on manner.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as 50-year-old Stanley Atkins from Grambling, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office. Atkins was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford van, identified as 53-year-old Sami Sayegh from Bastrop, was not injured in the crash. Sayegh was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Toyota van, identified as 23-year-old Joe McDaniel from Oak Grove, was transported to Morehouse General Hospital with serious injuries. A 17-year-old female passenger in the Toyota was transported to St Francis Hospital with serious injuries. Restraint use is unknown for the driver and passenger of the Toyota.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.

In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated twenty-nine (29) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-four (34) deaths.
