Impairment Suspected in Fatal West Carroll Crash |
TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE
August 5, 2011
Impairment Suspected in Fatal West Carroll Crash An Oak Grove man has died in a single vehicle crash in West Carroll Parish.
Troop F Troopers responded to the crash last night at about 7:45 pm. The investigation revealed that a 1996 Chevrolet truck was traveling east on LA 2, just west of Goodwill, when, for unknown reasons, the truck crossed the west bound travel lane and entered the ditch on the opposite side of the highway. The truck over-turned in the ditch and came to rest on its hood area.
The driver, identified as 78-year-old John Hodges from Oak Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Carroll Parish Coroner's Office. Hodges was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Investigating troopers suspect impairment in this crash and toxicology tests are pending.
Driving while impaired and lack of seat belt use continues to be contributing factors in a large majority of fatal crashes across the nation and the state of Louisiana. By never driving while impaired and always wearing a seatbelt, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash.
In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty (30) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-five (35) deaths.
