Bastrop Woman Dies in Morehouse Parish Crash Morehouse- On August 13, 2011, at about 1:35 pm, Troop F Troopers responded to a three-car crash on US 165 at Bayou Acres Rd. The investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling east on Bayou Acres Rd and failed to yield from a stop sign at US 165 and drove into the path of a southbound 2003 Toyota Camry. The Camry impacted the driver's side of the Impala. After the collision, the Impala traveled southeast coming to rest in the northbound lanes of US 165. The Camry continued south and struck a 2006 Toyota truck, which was stopped in the northbound turn lane of US 165.
The driver of the Impala, identified as 75-year-old Margie Beach from Bastrop, was transported to Morehouse General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later air-lifted to University Hospital in Jackson where she succumbed to her injuries and short time later.
The driver of the Camry, identified as 27-year-old Duke Gilmore from Bastrop, was transported to Morehouse General Hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the Toyota truck, identified as 49-year-old Steven Brown from Bastrop, was not injured in the crash.
All of the drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected to be a factor.
While not all crashes are survivable, properly wearing a seat belt is still the best way to reduce the risk of serious injury and death.
In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-one (31) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-six (36) deaths.
