TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE October 15, 2011 Fatal Head-on Crash in Ouachita Parish A two-vehicle crash in Ouachita Parish has killed one man and injured three other people. Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash last night at about 7:30 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2001 Dodge truck was traveling north on LA 557 (mile post 14.5) when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the center-line and struck a southbound 2009 Chevrolet Traverse in a head-on manner. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 53-year-old Kenneth Cupps from West Monroe, was transported to Glenwood Regional Medical Center, but died a short time later. Cupps was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 32-year-old Christy Walker from West Monroe, was transported to St Francis Hospital with moderate injuries. Two passengers in the Chevrolet, an eleven year old child and a five month old infant, were also taken to St Francis with minor to moderate injuries. Walker and the two children were properly restrained at the time of the crash. The proper wearing of a seat belt and the proper selection and use of a child restraint is the best way to reduce injuries and fatalities in car crashes. Every Louisiana State Police troop is recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a child safety seat “Inspection Station”.
